After losing the first two ODIs, the Indian women’s cricket team fought hard to win the final ODI on Saturday. India would be happy to secure a win in the final ODI despite losing the series. The win would give them some confidence ahead of the three-match T20 series against the same opposition. Harmanpreet Kaur would be back leading the unit, however, her poor run of form is a bit of concern for the team.
In the last three ODIs, she has only managed to score 36 runs. India’s Test skipper, Mathali Raj, however, is confident that Kaur would soon get back to form.
“It’s just a matter of one innings for a batter like her to get [back] her rhythm and timing. I’m sure with the T20 format, a format that suits her game, I really hope she will be back among the runs,” India ODI skipper Mithali Raj had said for Harmanpreet Kaur in a virtual press conference last week.
The’27-year old Sneh Rana has been one of the bright spots in the England series. She has impressed with her all-around exploits in the one-off Test as well as in the ODI series. Skipper, Mithali Raj praised Rana for making a comeback after five years and believes that she could be the answer to India’s lack of depth in the batting department.
“She’s definitely shown that she does have the character in her to be built into a good player. In the current era, in modern cricket, all-rounders play a very important role in the composition of the team. I’m sure that she has a bigger role playing for India in the coming years,” she added.
Although India won a final ODI, they lost the series to England 2-1. The two teams will now gear up for their three-match T20I series starting July 9.
