Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) kicked off their IPL 2021 season with a 10-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday. With a new skipper Eoin Morgan this season, KKR capitalized on every bit of opportunity and holding a tight grip of the game.
KKR skipper Eoin Morgan was all praises for his boys, especially opener Nitish Rana who scored blazing 80 runs off 56 balls. He provided a strong momentum for the other middle order batsmen that helped them put a stiff total of 188 runs for SRH.
After Rana’s cameo came Rahul Tripathi who scored a quick-fire 53 runs off 29 balls consisting of five boundaries and two sixes.
It was all due to the strong middle order batting, followed by a finishing carnage by Dinesh Karthik’s 22 runs off just 9 deliveries that KKR piled up 187 runs in 20 overs,
“Build up to the tournament has been pretty good. The camp that we had pre-tournament, the guys gelled well. Never quite sure what performance they will produce. Today was quite magnificent the way the guys batted. Guys at the top of the order. Nitish and Tripathi were absolutely outstanding and set up the game for our middle order to play in the manner we want to play. Certainly the bowling, we couldn’t have asked for a better start” KKR skipper Eoin Morgan said. \
Youngster Prasidh Krishna did the job
Among the KKR bowlers, Prasidh Krishna was exceptional during his spell as he finished with two wickets on his name that of SRH skipper David Warner and Mohammad Nabi. Bowlers certainly put a good performance and kept a good control on SRH’s chase.
“Certainly the bowling, we couldn’t have asked for a better start” Morgan said.
Pat Cummins and Andre Russell also picked a wicket each as KKR sealed a victory in their first game. The win against Sunrisers Hyderabad was also KKR’s 100th win in the history of the tournament. This would certainly give a huge boost to Morgan and his men in their next game against Mumbai Indians on April 13.
