KKR vs MI: Kolkata Knight Riders registered their third win of the season with a five-wicket win over Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. The star of the game Pat Cummins hit an unbeaten 56* runs off 15 deliveries in what was the joint-fastest 50 in the tournament so far. KKR was chasing 162 runs in 20 overs in their quest to bag 1st place in the IPL 2022 points table. However, MI bowlers had sent half the KKR squad back to the pavilion during the chase.
When Pat Cummins came into bat, 61 runs were needed in 7 overs. At 101 for 5, half of the side were back to the hut. Mumbai Indians had firm control of the game. However, what followed was carnage from Pat Cummins. The Australian played arguably the best knock of his IPL career.
He hit four sixes and a couple of fours in a single over off Daniel Sams to kill the game in the 16th over itself. As many as 35 runs came off the 16th over and, KKR, eventually, won the game by five wickets. Pat Cummins played a match-winning 56-run unbeaten knock-off 15 balls to help the team register their third win this season. Venkatesh Iyer also played a great hand, scoring a half-century in 41 balls.
Mumbai, once again, were below-par with their bowling. Mills and Ashwin picked two wickets each but Bumrah conceded 26 runs without a wicket. Given how Sam was hit in the game, he is not likely to play the next match.
Earlier, riding on a 36-ball 52-run knock from Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai Indians managed to score 161 runs in the first innings. The Indian batter started off slowly before shifting gears. Tilak Verma supported him well as he scored 38 runs in 27 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes. Pollard, later, played a great 5-ball 22-run cameo to take the team to a respectable total.
However, despite that, MI lost the game which becomes their third defeat on a Trott. Kolkata, on the other hand, has reached the top of the table with 3 wins in 4 matches.
