KKR vs RCB IPL 2021: Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 31st match of IPL 2021 on Monday. The two sides are currently sitting at the opposite ends of the points table.
Royal Challengers Bangalore fared really well in the India leg of the tournament. With 5 wins in 7 matches, they are currently sitting at the third position on the points table. Given how they performed in UAE last year, RCB would be confident of exhibiting strong performances in the second leg of the tournament as well.
The inclusion of Glenn Maxwell has done wonders for them. Maxwell has provided great starts with the bat and gave the ideal platform for the middle order to capitalize. He is RCB’s top run-getter this season with 223 runs in 7 matches at an average of 37.17. AB de Villiers has continued to make great returns. He has singlehandedly won matches for the side with the bat while batting in the middle order. Virat Kohli has been out of touch for a while now.
He is yet to come to his own this season. His form is worrying for RCB. He has also announced that he would no longer lead the side after the ongoing season. Will his decision remove some pressure off himself and get back to his best? We will have just to wait and see. Devdutt Padikkal has blown hot and cold thus far. However, he would be delighted to come back to UAE. He wreaked havoc last season at the same venues in UAE and would be confident of replicating similar performances this season as well. In the 2020 edition of the tournament, Padikkal was RCB’s highest-run getter.
Harshal Patel has been a revelation for them. He is currently the highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets in 7 matches.
On other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders are sitting at second from the bottom of the table. The batting unit made forgettable returns in the first leg of the tournament. The top-order comprising of Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi failed to hit the straps. Captain, Eoin Morgan and former skipper Dinesh Karthik have made disappointing returns. All-rounder, Andre Russell lacked consistency with his performances. For Kolkata Knight Riders to turn their fortunes around, the whole batting unit needs to step up to the plate right from the word go.
In Pat Cummins’ absence, Lockie Ferguson will lead the fast bowling department. Besides, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy will be their biggest bets in the spin bowling department.
