The second T20I of the ongoing three-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka has been postponed after team India all-rounder Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19. The match, which was originally scheduled to be played on July 27 (Tuesday) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, has now been rescheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 28.
Krunal Pandya was found to test positive for the virus following the Rapid Antigen Tests conducted ahead of the match on Tuesday morning. As per the protocols, all the players will remain under self-isolation for the day. The entire squad and staff are undergoing RT-PCR tests today to detect or rule out any other positive cases.
According to reports, around eight Indian players including Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw were found to be in close contact with Krunal. The development might come as a huge blow for Yadav and Shaw as both the players are due to travel to England for the upcoming five-match Test series between India and England.
“Following the Rapid Antigen Tests conducted ahead of the match on Tuesday morning, Team India all-rounder Krunal Pandya was found to be positive. The Medical Teams have identified eight members as close contacts. The entire contingent is undergoing RT-PCR tests today to ascertain any further outbreak in the squad,” BCCI said in an official statement.
“The reports will come in the evening (around 6 pm) and if everyone is in the clear, we can have the match on Wednesday. Maximum among the eight close contacts who are also in mandatory isolation are players,” Jay Shah stated.
