Sri Lankan team cricketer Kusal Perera might miss out in the upcoming white-ball series against India owing to a shoulder injury. According to reports, Perera picked up a shoulder injury during Sri Lanka’s tour of England. However, he kept playing in the series because of the non-availability of replacements.
It seems like he has now aggravated his injury as he didn’t feature in the practice games. The SLC medical team is closely monitoring Kusal Perera’s injury. An official decision on his availability for the six white-ball matches against India will be made soon.
Perera’s absence will be a major blow for the team as he is currently the most experienced player in the squad. He has represented Sri Lanka in 22 Tests, 107 ODIs, and 50 T20I. He has been in decent form, having scored 54 runs in the T20 series against England before notching 73 runs off of 81 deliveries in the first ODI.
Sri Lanka Cricket recently banned three players in Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, and Danushka Gunathilaka for breaching the bio-bubble. Kusal Perera’s absence would make it worse for the Island nation ahead of the white-ball series against Sri Lanka.
The India versus Sri Lanka ODI series begins this Sunday in Colombo. New captain Dasun Shanaka will lead the home side. It remains to be seen if Kusal Perera can recover in time.
Sri Lanka is coming into the series on the back of a disappointing tour of England. They lost the ODI series 2-0 at the hands of England before suffering a 3-0 whitewash in the T20 series.
