Sri Lankan bowler Lahiru Kumara, who was included in the touring party of the West Indies tour starting March 3, has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Sri Lankan squad underwent a COVID-19 test on Monday before preparing to set out on their tour to West Indies on February 23. Lahiru Kumara returned a negative result for the coronavirus test.
“Following PCR Tests carried out on the squad nominated to take part in the ‘White Ball’ segment of the Tour of West Indies, Lahiru Kumara has tested Positive for Covid-19. He was detected during a PCR Tests carried out yesterday (21st February),” Sri Lanka Cricket stated in an official statement.
The 24-year old has been directed to follow the government’s COVID-19 protocols and undergo self-isolation. Consequently, the bowler may miss out on the white-ball series between Sri Lanka and West Indies.
Sri Lanka is set to tour West Indies for an all-format series comprising three T20Is, three ODIs, and a two-match Test series, also including a 2-day practice match.
All the matches of the tour would take place in Antigua at two different stadiums, Coolidge Cricket Ground and Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
