Latest cricket news: India will play two T20 warm-up matches against Derbyshire and Northamptonshire ahead of their white-ball series against England in July. On July 1st and 3rd, the two matches will be played against each other. While the first one will be an evening match to be played at the Incora County Ground in Derby and the second one will be a day game hosted by the County Ground in Northampton.
Both games, though, would coincide with the India-England fifth and final Test, which was postponed last year owing to a COVID-19 outbreak. The test will take place from July 1 to 5 in Edgbaston, Birmingham, after COVID-19 instances were reported among the Indian contingent. The series is 2-1 in favour of India.
“India will travel to The Incora County Ground to face Derbyshire in a Twenty20 Tour Fixture on Friday 1 July (7 pm start). The number-one ranked T20 side in the world will continue their ICC Twenty20 World Cup preparations against a Derbyshire side,” Derbyshire announced on its website. Adding to this Northamptonshire wrote, “Northamptonshire will welcome India to Wantage road this summer for a one-off T20 tour match,”
The first practice match will take place at Derby’s Incora County Ground, while the second will take place at Northampton’s County Ground. This year, India will play three T20Is and ODIs in England, with the first T20I taking place in Southampton on July 7 and the remaining two games taking place at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge. On July 12, the first One-Day International will be played at The Oval, followed by matches at Lord’s and Old Trafford until the tour closes on July 17.
England will host New Zealand for three Tests prior to the India tour, and after India departs, they will play South Africa in three ODIs, T20Is, and Tests apiece in a lengthy home season that will include the Hundred.
