LSG vs MI: Mumbai Indians suffered their sixth consecutive defeat after losing to Lucknow Super Giants by 18 runs on Saturday at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Skipper Rohit Sharma had won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, Mumbai failed to pick early wickets in the power play. Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul added 50 runs in the first five overs of the innings. Quinton de Kock got out in the sixth over off Fabien Allen after scoring 24 runs in 13 balls. KL Rahul, at that stage, was at 27 off 20 balls.
However, he switched gears once the powerplay got over. KL Rahul smashed boundaries all around the park and wreaked havoc in the middle. He received great support from Manish Pandey, who returned to form with a valuable knock of 38 runs in 29 balls.
The skipper, though, went on to notch his first century of the ongoing season. He played an unbeaten knock of 103 runs in 60 balls, including 9 fours and 5 fours. His knock helped the team reach a mammoth score of 199 runs in the first innings.
In pursuit of the target, MI skipper, Rohit Sharma, once again, got out early. He made only 6 runs in 7 balls, while Ishan Kishan (13 off 17) failed to convert the start into a big score. Later, Dewald Brevis (31 off 13) and Suryakumar Yadav (37 off 27) played crucial knocks but couldn’t stay till the end.
Tilak Varma also contributed 26 runs in 26 balls. while Kieron Pollard too tried his best with a 14-ball 25. However, the required rate kept creeping up as the game progressed and, in the end, Mumbai fell 18 runs short of the target.
Once again, for Lucknow Super Giants, Avesh Khan starred with the bat as he picked three wickets for 30 runs in 4 overs.
