Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah has been added into Bangladesh’s Test for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, confirmed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday. The T20 skipper, Mahmudullah hasn’t been part of Bangladesh’s Test squad for the last year. His last test match came against Pakistan back in February 2020. However, now that he is deemed fit to bowl, he has been included in the Test squad.
Mahmudullah was overlooked for the Test squad for the last one year due to his inability to bowl because of his injury. However, his recent performance in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League has helped him earn a Test recall. The all-rounder has picked 17 wickets in 16 matches in the ongoing tournament.
Players namely, Tamim Iqbal, Taskin Ahmed and Mushfiqur Rahim aren’t part of the ongoing Dhaka Premier League because of their respective injuries. However, the trio is expected to be fit before the Zimbabwe tour.
“Look Tamim and Mushfiqur have injuries so we have included Mahmudullah as he is a senior member and we don’t want to take any risk,” Akram Khan said. ”As he is bowling, naturally it was also considered behind his inclusion.”
The one-off Test on the Zimbabwe tour will start on 7th July at the Harare Sports Club. Bangladesh will also play a three-match one-day international series thereafter, which is part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, and three T20 internationals in Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, BCB also announced the appointment of former Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath and South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince as Bangladesh national team’s consultants for spin bowling and batting, respectively.
