Mark Wood turned earned plaudits after exhibiting notable performances in the recently concluded T20 series against England. He troubled the batsmen with his consistent and sheer pace. As a result, he ended the series as the second-highest wicket-taker for England. He took 5 wickets in 4 games.
The England speedster is all set to replicate similar performances in the ODI series as well. Ahead of the first ODI, Wood revealed his secret behind his newly found consistency and searing pace.
“I think just confidence to be honest. Confidence in my action, confidence in my run-up. It took a while to get used to it properly, but now I feel comfortable. Over a period of time in the one-day team, I have been amongst the group for a long time, so I have the trust of the captain and the lads. As long as I can keep trying to bowl quick and put in good performances then hopefully, I can try and stay in the team.”
Mark Wood is part of England’s 14-member squad for the ODI series. The England pacer is happy to see a change in the venue for the ODI series and expressed his excitement over facing the number two ODI side in the world.
“Change of venue, which is nice. In different conditions, we will have to adapt early and see what happens. I am very excited. It is a good team, as well so it will be a good test. We saw in the last T20I how strong their batting was. I certainly felt that! It will be a good test and one that we will have to be ready for.”
In the absence of Jofra Archer, Mark Wood will lead the fast-bowling attack. It remains to be seen how he delivers with the ball in the white-ball series.
