Mark Wood, England’s fast bowler, shared a piece of great news about his health and recovery via an Instagram post for his fans after undergoing successful elbow surgery to address an issue that plagued him throughout the last Test series against the West Indies. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw midway from the first test in Antigua which was against West Indies after facing ‘an acute pain’ in his right elbow.
He was also dropped from the IPL deal of INR 7.5 crore (USD 1 Million approx.) with the Lucknow Super Giants naming Andrew Tye as his replacement.
The bowler himself announced the surgery, which took place on Saturday, in an Instagram post in which he was recorded coming from theatre while still under general anaesthetic and stating that he was “Ibiza mellow” throughout the treatment. The ECB confirmed in an official statement that the treatment comprised removing bone and scar tissue to resolve an impingement condition and that no floating bone had been observed.
“No more boney fragments in my arm!” Wood wrote. “Thanks to Professor Roger van Riet and Mr Ali Noorani for sorting me out and all the staff who made me feel totally at ease.”
“Langers, the England physio videoed me coming out of the anaesthetic – Bah, I talk some absolute rubbish!!!” These were the words of the Instagram post by Wood.
Mark Wood, England’s fastest bowler, was the standout performance in the team’s 4-0 Ashes defeat, claiming 17 wickets at a strike rate of 26.64 in four games, including a career-best 6 for 37 in the final match at Hobart.
He will now begin his rehabilitation with the ECB and Durham, while a return to play date is to be determined in due time. He is expected to resume light training next month, with the goal of returning to white-ball play at the Royal London One-Day Cup in May.
