The first-round draft of the USA cricket i.e., the Minor League Cricket (MiLC) concluded on August 22 i.e, Saturday last week. As per the reports, the first-round draft attracted over 36-First class players making into the list including 21 international players.
The American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) had announced the 15-city and 18-member squad after the conclusion of the first round draft. The list is expected to expand after the culmination of the second-round draft in the first week of September.
“Today was a really positive step forward for the league and a milestone in the journey of MiLC. Teams prepared really well and had to make some tough decisions, even more so given the current challenges in regard to travel and scouting. What this exercise has reinforced is the number of players eager to be involved and the opportunities that exist to grow the game” an ACE official told Cricbuzz.
The idea behind the tournament is to establish the sport in the United States of America and form a US national team. The squad announced on Sunday includes players with an international cricket experience from West Indies, Pakistan, South Africa, Canada and UAE.
Some of the prominent players include Narsingh Deonarine (WI), Chanderpaul Hemraj (WI), Shaun Findlay (WI), Najaf Shah (Pakistan), Nikhil Dutta (Canada) and Saad Zafar (Canada).
The inaugural edition of the Minor League Cricket is all set to begin in the early 2021 but the ACE would be hopeful of getting some more intra-conference exhibition games before the second round draft on September 12.
