A panel of former international cricketers and commentators which includes David Gower, Pommie Mbangwa, Ramiz Raja and Sana Mir have selected a Dream XI team of PSL 6 after the conclusion of the tournament. Three players each from Multan Sultans and Islamabad United have made it into the playing XI. Mohammad Rizwan has been named as the skipper of the side. He was sensational with the bat accumulating 500 runs, including four half-centuries in 12 games.
Babar Azam and H Zazai have been named as the openers, while the likes of M Rizwan, Colin Munro, S Maqsood, and Asif Ali will form the middle order. Wahab Riaz would lead the pace bowling department, which also comprises Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi and Shahnawaz Dhani. Rashid Khan has been included as the sole spinner in the eleven.
Interestingly, Babar Azam and Wahab Riaz are two players who have been selected for the second time. The duo were also named in the Dream team XI last year as well.
Team (in batting order): Hazratullah Zazai (Peshawar Zalmi); Babar Azam (Karachi Kings); Colin Munro (Islamabad United); Sohaib Maqsood (Multan Sultans); Mohammad Rizwan (captain, wicketkeeper) (Multan Sultans); Asif Ali (Islamabad United); Wahab Riaz (Peshawar Zalmi); Rashid Khan (Lahore Qalandars); Hasan Ali (Islamabad United); Shaheen Afridi (Lahore Qalandars); Shahnawaz Dahani (Multan Sultans); James Faulkner (12th, Lahore Qalandars).
For the unversed, Multan Sultans won the 2021 edition of the Pakistan Super League after beating Peshawar Zalmi in the final. Riding on a brilliant Sohaib Maqsood’s scintillating 65-run knock, Multan Sultans posted a mammoth 206-run total in the first innings. In reply, Peshawar Zalmi fought hard but could only manage to score 159 runs, thereby, handing a 47-run win to Multan. With that, Multan Sultan won their maiden PSL title.
