India’s former wicket-keeper batsman, Parthiv Patel believes that Chennai Super Kings is likely to perform better and come out as a tough nut to crack this year. In the Star Sports Show’ Cricket Connected, Parthiv Patel spoke about the notable inclusions CSK has made this year.
Also, the Indian commentator believes that Rituraj Gaekwad’s form and the inclusion of Suresh Raina would become a major boost to CSK’s 2021 IPL ambitions.
“See, obviously they must be slightly disappointed that they have to get out of Chennai because they have got Moeen Ali in their squad, they have got K Gowtham in their squad. Last year, what went wrong for CSK was, that they were not getting enough runs on the board. Then, in the latter half of the tournament, you see emergence of Ruturaj Gaikwad.” Patel said
“And now with Suresh Raina coming in the squad, I think he holds big key in the CSK lineup and we have seen what he has done throughout the years of IPL. With him coming back and Rituraj Gaikwad doing well in domestic cricket and plus MS Dhoni, they’re great players and you can’t count them out for too long,” Patel added.
Skipper MS Dhoni too failed to match-up to fan’s expectations last year. However, Parthiv asserts that the former Indian skipper is determined to turn the tables this time around.
“He (MS Dhoni) had an indifferent season last year but as we saw how keen he is (spoke to him few times) and he is very determined to get CSK’s ball rolling to start with,” Parthiv said.
Chennai Super Kings endured a below-par season last year. They finished at the seventh position and failed to reach the playoffs for the first time in their IPL history. The franchise would be hoping for a better performance this year. CSK will begin their 2021 IPL campaign against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 10th April 2021.
