Mumbai Indians have named Simarjeet Singh as an injury replacement for the injured left-arm pacer Arjun Tendulkar after he was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.
Arjun Tendulkar was yet to make his debut for the franchise this season. The Mumbai Indians bought the services of 22-year old Arjun Tendulkar at the auction at his base price of Rs 20 Lakhs.
“Mumbai Indians have added Simarjeet Singh as an injury replacement to Arjun Tendulkar for the remainder of their IPL 2021 season,” the franchise confirmed in an official statement.
“The right-arm medium-fast bowler has started training with the team after completing the mandatory quarantine as per IPL guidelines.”
Simarjeet Singh represents Delhi in the domestic circuit. He made his Delhi debut against Saurashtra in a List A match in September 2018. He was named one of the net bowlers in India’s recent white-ball tour against Sri Lanka. However, after several of the Indian squad players tested positive for Covid-19, he was promoted to the T20I squad.
The 23-year old has played 10 first-class, 19 List A, and 15 T20 matches. Singh has taken 37 first-class wickets, 19 List A wickets, and 18 T20 wickets. In first-class cricket, he has four-wicket hauls and once a five-wicket haul, as well as four wickets in List A matches.
He impressed all with his performance in last season’s Vijay Hazare Trophy and last season and ended it on a successful note. He emerged as Delhi’s joint second-highest wicket-taker with 11 wickets to his name at an average of 28.45 and an economy rate of 5.65.
Meanwhile, the franchise has managed to keep itself in the top four of the IPL 2021 points table after pulling off a heist against the Punjab Kings on Tuesday. They beat them by six wickets while chasing the target of 136 runs in 19 overs. They will next square off against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
