County cricket team Nottinghamshire on Friday confirmed the signing of Zimbabwe’s under-19 wicket-keeper batsman Dane Schadendorf. The youngster played for Zimbabwe in the Under-19 World Cup in 2020, will now be staying at the Trent Bridge for the next two years.

Schadendorf gained attention during the warm-up matches ahead of the tournament mostly due to his stumpings against New Zealand. He showed a glimpse of what MS Dhoni did in his prime form in the peak playing days of his career.

The 18-year-old also scored 81 runs against India during a warm-up match before entering the World Cup tournament.

Schadendorf has a British passport also allows him to play for Nottinghamshire as a local player. Previously, he has also played for Nottinghamshire Under 18 and second XI teams.

“My game is probably more suited to white-ball cricket at the moment, but I’m working really hard on my red-ball game, and I think I’m getting better,” Schadendorf said.

“My aims for the next year or so are just to get off to a good start here, score as many runs as I can, and try to stake my claim for a place in the first team,” he added.

Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket Mick Newell welcomed the youngster in the side saying, “We believe there’s a high ceiling of potential thereā€¦ we hope to see him pushing for a place in our first team in the near future.”
