NZ vs ENG: In what may come as a major shock for the New Zealand team, skipper Kane Williamson may not be able to play in the second Test starting June 10 at Edgbaston.
Williamson having sustained a left elbow injury, has not recovered yet and is being monitored by the medical team as of now. Black Caps coach Gary Stead has informed that a decision on his availability in the playing XI for the next game will be take on Wednesday.
Gary Stead also informed that all-rounder Mitchell Santner has been sidelined from playing in the second Test owing to a cut he suffered on his left index finger during the first Test that ended in a draw, augmenting the problems of the Kiwis. Left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel is in line as his replacement.
“Gary Stead update, Birmingham, pace bowlers from Lord’s will not all play 2nd Test, Trent Boult available and likely to return, Mitch Santner ruled out with his cut left index finger, Kane Williamson’s left elbow injury being monitored and a decision to be made tomorrow,” the official handle of BlackCaps tweeted.
NZ vs ENG: Strike bowler Trent Boult could make his return
As a sigh of relief for the team though, speedster Trent Boult is likely to make his return in the playing XI for the second Test. Boult had missed the first match but after the UK government relaxed the quarantine rules, he started training straight away after joining the squad last week. He was originally slated to play directly in the ICC World Test Championship final.
One of the pacers, who played in the first Test at Lord’s, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, and Kyle Jamieson, would not make it into the playing XI for the second Test.
