It was on this day, three years ago, Indian vice-captain in limited-overs Rohit Sharma scripted a record with the bat in the shortest format of cricket.

Rohit Sharma joined the elite list by recording the second-highest T20I century during a match against Sri Lanka. The 33-year-old smashed 118 runs and reached his century off just 35 balls studded with 12 boundaries and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 274.42.

The right-handed batsman orchestrated the highest-total of the Indian team in the T20I cricket and got much-appreciated support from KL Rahul.

Rahul scored 89 runs off just 49 deliveries and skewed the Sri Lankan bowlers for five boundaries and eight humongous sixes. The Indian team posted a massive total of 260/5 after the 20 overs contingent posted a massive total with Nuwan Pradeep and Thisara Perera taking a couple of wickets each.

While defending the total of 260 runs, Indian bowlers especially the spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav spin-choked the visitors. Chahal finished with 4/52 while Yadav took 3/52 as the duo jointly inflicted seven damages to the Sri Lankan team.

India went on to win the game by 88 runs and Rohit Sharma was adjudged the man of the match for his gleaming inning of 118 runs. He is also the second-highest scorer of India in the T20Is with 2773 runs, after the skipper Virat Kohli (2928 runs).

Shikhar Dhawan emulated his former team-mates Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni and jumped to the third place in the list with 1669 runs in T20Is.
