PAK vs AUS: Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against Australia, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Wednesday (February 23). The 27-year-old will now sit out of the much-anticipated three-match Test series due to a foot injury.
“Mohammad Nawaz has been ruled out of the series with a foot injury. He will not be replaced in the side,” the PCB statement mentioned.
Nawaz was named in Pakistan’s Test squad after almost seven years since making his debut in 2016 against the series against West Indies. He last played against West Indies at Sharjah in 2016 and has so far has taken 5 wickets in three Test matches.
Moreover, the board has named Naseem Shah and Sarfaraz Ahmed as traveling reserves and will be available for selection if any player gets injured in the playing XI.
“Naseem Shah and Sarfaraz Ahmed have now been added as traveling reserves. They will only be considered for selection if there is an injury” the statement added.
Wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris is also named on the reserve players’ list. He will however participate in the Pakistan Cup which kickstarts from March 2. If needed he will be added to the main squad for the Test series.
“Mohammad Haris has been added to the reserve players list. However, he, along with Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Abbas, and Yasir Shah have been advised to participate in the Pakistan Cup, which commences on 2 March. If required, they will be drafted into the side,” the statement said.
Players named in the Test series who did not partake in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 will serve three-day isolation on their arrival in Islamabad tonight. They will then begin their training from February 27, while the players part of the PSL 2022 will join the training from March 1.
