Pakistan team T20I captain Javeria Khan will miss out on the first Test against South Africa due to a finger injury. Batter Aliya Riaz will lead the team in her absence.
“The top-order batter had her finger dislocated during a training session yesterday. She was taken to a local hospital for X-rays, which confirmed that she had not sustained a fracture,” Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement.
“She was examined by the team doctor earlier in the day after which the decision to rest her in the first match of the three-T20I series was taken,” PCB added.
Javeria Khan will be kept in close observation and monitored by the medical team to track her recovery. If she is found fit, the Pakistan skipper will most likely lead the team in the second T20I clash scheduled for Sunday.
The Pakistan team is set to face South Africa in a three-match T20I series commencing from January 29 at the Durban’s Kingsmead Cricket Stadium. It will be the team’s first T20I since the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup last year.
