PAK vs WI 2022: Middlesex County Cricket Club stated on Thursday that Pakistan paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi will return home immediately ahead of next month’s one-day international series against the West Indies.
Shaheen was expected to leave the county side in early June to prepare for his international obligations, but the club stated it respected his desire to spend time with his family and friends.
Shaheen, 22, is scheduled to return to England after the three-match series against the Caribbean side, which starts on June 8, to represent Middlesex in the latter stages of the T20 Blast competition. In three matches for the London-based squad in the County Championship’s second level, the towering left-arm fast has claimed 14 first-class wickets.
Speaking of Shaheen’s immediate departure, Alan Coleman, Middlesex Cricket’s Head of Men’s Performance Cricket, commented:
“We have thoroughly enjoyed having Shaheen here with us at Lord’s for the last month. He has settled into the group really well and has been a real asset for us on the field. It has been a pleasure working with him“.
“Shaheen has played international cricket in all three forms of the game already this year and came to Middlesex off the back of a busy playing schedule, so we are fully understanding and supportive of his request to go home and recharge ahead of him representing his country.
“We look forward to his return in late June when we hope he will be in a position to make an impactful return to us and help us in our Vitality Blast campaign.”
The three-match ODI series between West Indies and Pakistan will be part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. The series will get underway from June 8 with the 1st ODI at Pindi Stadium in Rawalpindi, followed by the next two ODI matches at the same venue on June 10 & 12 respectively.
