PAK vs WI: West Indies white ball captain Kieron Pollard has been ruled out of West Indies’ upcoming white-ball tour of Pakistan due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and failed to recover from it on time. Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed the news via an official media release on Sunday, December 5.
The board has named Devon Thomas, as his replacement in the One-Day International (ODI) squad while they have named allrounder Rovman Powell as his replacement in the T20 International (T20I) squad.
Nicholas Pooran will be the captain of the squad in the T20Is now that Pollard is sidelined. When West Indies trounced Australia 4-1 in the five-match T20I Series in St. Lucia earlier this year, he was the stand-in captain. On the other hand, Shai Hope will lead the squad in the ODIs.
Pollard will be rehabilitated in Trinidad under the care of CWI’s Chief Medical Officer and will be evaluated again in a few weeks before the next home tours against Ireland and England in January 2022.
The West Indies is scheduled to tour the Asian nation to play three T20Is and three ODIs at the Karachi National Stadium from December 13 to 22.
The ODI Series will be West Indies’ fourth of 12 in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, in which the top seven teams qualify automatically for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India in 2023. West Indies are now ranked eighth out of thirteen teams while Pakistan rests on the seventh place.
