Papua New Guinea has announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be played in West Indies. PNG team will be led by Barabas Maha. West Indies will be hosting the U-19 World Cup for the first time in the history of the competition.
As many as 16 teams will be participating in the U-19 World Cup. 48 matches will take place from 14th January to 5th February across four cities.
“CRICKET PNG PIH U19 SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT The Cricket PNG PIH U19 15 men squad were announced today at the Amini Park Cricket Ground. From the 18 men train-on squad, 15 were selected for the final squad. The Team will depart on the 1st of January 2022 to West Indies.” Cricket PNG tweeted.
Group A in the competition will have teams such as Bangladesh, England, Canada, and United Arab Emirates. India is placed in Group B, alongside South Africa, Ireland, and debutant Uganda. Group C will have Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and Papua New Guinea. Host West Indies are placed in Group D, alongside Australia, Sri Lanka, and Scotland.
The tournament will begin with a much-anticipated clash between West Indies and Australia. The second game of the first day will have Sri Lanka take on Scotland.
The group stage of the competition will be held in Guyana, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago. The matches will take place from 14th January to 22nd January. The plate competition will be held from 25th January to 31st January, while Superleague matches will be held in Antigua and Barbuda from 26th January.
The final of the tournament will be held on 5th February at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.
