England seamer Saqib Mahmood has been added to England squad ahead of the second Test of the ongoing Pataudi Trophy 2021 in England. Mahmood has been roped in as cover for Stuart Broad. Earlier, Moeen Ali and Hameed were also included in England’s squad for the second Test.
Also, England spinner, Dom Bess is set to leave the bubble and return to Yorkshire ahead of the second Test against India at Lord’s.
“Lancashire seamer Saqib Mahmood has been added to the squad as cover for the LV= Insurance second Test against India. Spinner Dom Bess will leave the squad and return to Yorkshire this morning,” England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said.
Saqib Mahmood is yet to make his debut in Test Cricket. He recently appeared in England’s ODI squad against Pakistan. He impressed one and all with his accurate line and length. He played a stellar role in the bowing unit to help England beat Pakistan 3-0 in the ODIs. He picked 9 wickets in 3 matches and finished as the leading wicket-taker in the series. Overall, he has 14 wickets in 7 ODIs thus far.
Moeen Ali, on other hand, is likely to feature in the second Test for England. The 34-year-old all-rounder has played only one Test match in the last two years, against India in Chennai almost six months ago, but will link up with the team at Lord’s.
“Worcestershire spinning all-rounder Moeen Ali has been added to the England Men’s Test squad,” the England and Wales Cricket Board said in their statement.
The second Test of the Pataudi Trophy 2021 between India and England will be played from 12th August to 16th August 2021. The first Test between the two teams ended in a draw after rain marred the play on the final day of the match.
