Jonny Bairstow set the foundation with a 66-run knock of 29 balls, including 4 fours and 7 sixes. He went firing on all cylinders right from the onset of his innings. Dhawan got out after scoring 21 runs in 15 balls, however, Bairstow played till the 9th over of the innings. His onslaught meant Punjab had scored 100 runs in just 9 overs in the first innings.
The likes of Hasaranga and Harshal pulled things back a little as the duo picked wickets in short intervals. However, Liam Livingstone kept smashing boundaries at the other end. He played a sensational knock of 70 runs in 42 balls, helping the team reach a formidable score of 209 runs in the first innings.
RCB succumbs to another flop performance
For RCB, Harshal Patel was the pick among the bowlers as he picked 4 for 34 in 4 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga also bowled beautifully as he made impressive returns of 2 for 15 in 4 overs. In pursuit of the score, RCB could only manage to score 155 runs in the second innings. Virat Kohli smashed two fours and a six before getting out for 20 off 14. Faf du Plessis (10 off 8) and Mahipal Lomror (6 off 3) also failed to hit the straps.
Glenn Maxwell (35 off 22) and Rajat Patidar (26 off 21) tried to build a partnership and but both failed to convert the start into big scores. Once both of them got out, wickets kept falling at short intervals and, in the end, RCB fell 54 runs short of the target.
