Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Alia Zafar as the director in the board of governors. Alia also became the first woman candidate to be designated as the director since the advent of the board.
Last year the board had revised its constitution in which they revoked the Board of Governors’ (BoG) membership. They also altered the number of cricket associations in the country from eight to three in order to add balance to their influence.
Three other members named as independent along with Ali Zafar are Javed Kureishi (finance executive), Asim Wajid Jawad (Economics), and Arif Saeed (Economist and corporate executive).
The board retained Kureishi and Arif Saeed for three years while retaining Alia and Wajid for two years after effective from their appointment.
Ever since the board assigned four independent directors, the board released all the old members.
“Following promulgation of the new PCB Constitution in 2019, these distinguished members, on my request, had agreed to continue through the transitional period and provide the PCB management appropriate guidance through their knowledge and insight,” PCB chairman, Ehsan Mani, said.
“The fact that these BoG members unanimously approved the appointment of the independent members, which now changes the outlook and composition of the BoG, illustrates their respect for the PCB Constitution 2019 and Pakistan cricket at heart” he added.
