India’s pace spearhead in Test Cricket, Ishant Sharma, became only the second Indian fast bowler to play 100 Tests after being named in the playing XI for the ongoing third Test between India and England. For a fast bowler, it’s never easy to play 100 Tests in international cricket. Only one Indian pacer in Kapil Dev has managed to reach the feat.
Ahead of the third Test, both President Ram Nath Kovind and home minister Amit Shah facilitated Ishant Sharma to mark the occasion. In a video uploaded by BCCI on its social media handle, Ram Nath Kovind and Amit Shah presented a memento to the Indian fast bowler. It was followed by the Indian skipper introducing the Home Minister and President to the Indian players. All the players greeted the dignitaries with folded hands.
For the unversed, Ishant Sharma is the most capped player in the current Indian Test squad. He has 302 wickets to his name at an average of 32.2, including 11 five-wicket hauls. He is also the only third Indian pacer to have taken 300 wickets in Test cricket after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan.
India has so far dominated the first day of the third Test. Against the spin duo of Ashwin and Axar, England has looked clueless, to say the least. They have currently lost 9 wickets for 106 runs in 47 overs. Axar Patel has taken his second five-wicket haul in only his second Test.
