Lahore Qalandars put on an impressive performance with both and ball to beat Peshawar Zalmi by 29 runs on Wednesday in their PSL 2022 encounter at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Riding on yet another outstanding knock from Fakhar Zaman, Lahore Qalandars notched a gigantic 199-run total in the first innings. Fakhar Zaman and Shafique put on a 94-run partnership for the opening wicket. The latter got out on 41 off 33 balls, but Fakhar Zaman went on to score 66 runs in 38 balls.
Kamran Ghulam (30 off 23) and Hafeez (37 off 19) also made valuable contributions to help the team reach a 199-run total in the first innings. In response to the total, Peshawar Zalmi lost Hazratullah Zazai (0 off 3) and Hussain Talat (15 off 14) got out without making a significant contribution. Karam Akmal, however, played a brilliant 41-run knock off 24 balls, helping the team keep up with the required rate.
Akmal, however, failed to convert the start into a big score. Haider Ali then played a valuable 49-run knock off 34 deliveries but he found little support from the other end. The likes of Shoaib Malik, Sherfane Rutherford and Ben Cutting succumb to impressive bowling displays from the Lahore Qalandars.
Zaman Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 3 for 32 runs in 4 overs. Shaheen Afridi, on the other hand, picked 2 for 19, while David Wiese claimed 2 for 11 in 2 overs.
With that win, Lahore Qalandars have moved to number two on the points table with 2 wins in 4 matches. Peshawar Zalmi, on the other hand, has slipped to second from the bottom with a solitary win in 3 matches.
Brief Scores: Lahore Qalandars 199 for 4 (Fakhar 66, Shafique 41, Irshad 2-47) beat Peshawar Zalmi 170 for 9 (Haider 49, Akmal 41, Zaman 3-32) by 29 runs
