Another high-scoring contest in PSL 2022 between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators led to the former winning the contest by 43 runs on Thursday. It was a complete bowling performance from Islamabad United which helped register their second win in three matches.
Paul Sterling set the foundation for the win with a magical 58-run knock off 28 balls. Hales also played a valuable cameo of 22 runs in 9 deliveries.
However, the entertainment didn’t end there only. Colin Munro and Azam Khan then put on an exhibition of sixes against a lacklustre bowling unit of Quetta Gladiators. Munro smashed 72 runs in just 39 deliveries. His knock included 3 fours and 5 sixes.
Azam Khan too provided great entertainment as he smacked 65 runs in just 35 deliveries, which had 2 fours and 6 sixes. All those contributions helped the team notch a mammoth score of 229 runs in the first innings.
Quetta Gladiators, in pursuit of the target, kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The opener, Ahsan Ali played a valiant knock of 50 runs in 27 deliveries but the other batsmen just couldn’t get going.
Shadab Khan ran through Gladiators’ bowling attack as he picked 5 wickets for just 28 runs to leave the team in all sorts of trouble at 110 for 7.
M Nawaz and James Faulkner stitched a decent partnership thereafter and hit a lot of sixes. They reignited some hope but it was never going to be enough. Nawaz got out after scoring 47 off 22 balls, while Faulkner remained unbeaten on 30 off 14. Quetta Gladiators were bowled out for 186 runs in the second innings, thereby losing the match by 43 runs.
Brief Scores: Islamabad United 229 for 4 (Munro 72, Azam 65, Stirling 58, Nawaz 2-32) beat Quetta Gladiators 186 (Ahsan 50, Shadab 5-28) by 43 runs
