Quetta Gladiators put in a complete performance against Karachi Kings to earn their first points in PSL 2022 on Saturday. Riding on a five-wicket haul from Naseem Shah, the Gladiators bundled Karachi Kings for 113 runs in the first innings.
It was Sohail Tanvir who took the first two wickets of Sharjeel Khan (10) and Joe Clarke (2) in just the third over of the innings. The likes of Lammonby (3), Nabi (0), and Gregory (5) got out in single-digit scores to leave the team in all sorts of trouble at 34 for 5 inside the first seven overs.
Babar Azam, however, held firm at one end but only till the 12th over. He made 32 runs in 29 deliveries. Later, Aemer Yamin (20 off 10) and Imad Wasim (26 off 22) played cameos to guide the team to 113 in the first innings. Naseem Shah picked 5 wickets for 20 runs in 3.3 overs, while Tanvir picked 2 for 29 in 4 overs.
In response to the score, Quetta Gladiators chased it down in 15.5 overs. Ahsan Ali and Will Smeed, once again, stitched an outstanding 76-run partnership for the opening wicket. The duo didn’t allow Karachi Kings to pick wickets early in the innings.
Will Smeed played as a second fiddle to Ahsan Ali, who scored 30 runs in 35 balls. Ahsan Ali, too, played a crucial knock of 57 runs in 43 balls, a knock which was laced with 8 fours. He remained unbeaten and guided the team home in 15.5 overs with 8 wickets in hand.
Quetta Gladiators have registered their first win in 2 matches. With that win, they have moved to second position on the points table. Karachi Kings, on the other hand, are yet to win a game in the tournament.
