The 22nd match of PSL 6 between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi turned out to be a firework of a game. In a flaring match between the two teams, Islamabad United emerged victorious as Colin Munro’s unbeaten 88 and Iftikhar Ahmed’s 71* helped them cruise towards an 8 wicket win over Karachi Kings.
The United’s victory started right from the start as they won the toss and elected to chase the target. The Kings did a fine job and there were a number of enthralling shots laced with seven fours and three sixes by Babar Azam as he slammed a brilliant 81 runs off 54 balls and Najibullah Zadran added another 71 runs off 42 balls to ensure a robust target. However, little did they know that it would be all in vain as a strong batting in the innings wasn’t enough for them to taste victory.
In came the United to play their cards. Although they had a lackadaisical start, the whole scenario was changed in the second half with Munro’s entry, who started shooting unstoppable fours. He was then joined by Ahmed who stitched a partnership of an unbeaten 150 off 79 balls.
Munro finished with a 56-ball 88 masterstroke, while Iftikhar sealed the deal by the end of the innings with a 39-ball 71 knock, bringing a showdown to their chase of 190 runs sets by the confident Kings. Iftikhar Ahmed won the much-deserving Player of the Match title for his carnage that won them the game with 8 balls to spare.
The Kings gave a flustered reaction to the explosions by the Munro-Ahmed partnership. The fielding department showed lots of glitches and there were a number of missed catches and to the disappointment of the Kings, 19 extras that ultimately ended up helping the United’s cause.
