Rachin Ravindra and Jacob Duffy have received their maiden call-ups in the Test squad of the New Zealand team for the upcoming Test series against England.
The Blackcaps are scheduled to tour England in June for a two-match Test series, for which they have assembled a 20-member squad. The first match of the tour will commence from June at the Lord’s, while the second match that will begin from June 10 will take place at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Aside from Duffy and Ravindra, Devon Conway has also earned his maiden Test call-up. That makes up three debutants in the 20-member squad of the Blackcaps that will be led by Kane Williamson.
21-year-old all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who has already gathered an experience of 22 T20 games owing to his impressive batting, earned his call-up thanks to his blistering double ton for New Zealand A during the West Indies tour. He went on to strike a century in his debut Plunket Shield match. He also impressed with his six-wicket spell in the Firebirds final round clash against the Auckland Aces. Ravindra has a brilliant 1470 runs in 26 first-class matches.
Seamer Duffy has made one international appearance in the T20 clash against Pakistan last year, returning a remarkable figure of 33/4. He won the player of the match award in his debut game at Eden Park. The 26-year old has impressive records in the Plunket Shield.
“We’re absolutely delighted for Rachin and Jacob,” Blackcaps coach Gary Stead said on including them in the squad.
“I’ve seen first-hand how hard these guys have worked in our NZC winter training squads and with New Zealand A, and so for them to earn their maiden Test call-ups for such a special tour will be really satisfying.”
