According to reports, Rahul Dravid is all set to travel to Sri Lanka with team India for their six-game white-ball series, comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is to get underway in July. Members of Dravid’s team from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will be part of the coaching staff. The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) is yet to make a formal announcement on the matter.
The series will commence on July 13 onwards and conclude on July 25. After arriving in Sri Lanka, the Indian squad will get a period of one week to prepare. BCCI had originally planned to organize a training camp in Bangalore, but due to the severe COVID-19 crisis in India, decided to discard the plan.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, ‘the touring party will have quarantine before departure in India and is preparing to undergo isolation, if needed, on arrival in Sri Lanka too, depending on the bio-protocols in the island.’
As per the Sri Lanka Ministry of Health’s guidelines, one-day quarantine is required for the fully vaccinated individuals from India, Vietnam, South African, and South American countries. The rule holds up till June 30.
The Indian team selection committee is yet to make announcements on the squad. Shikhar Dhawan is likely to be named as the captain of the touring squad.
Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri will be unavailable for the Sri Lanka tour as he will be with the Virat Kohli-led team in England. Hence, Rahul Dravid has been handed over the responsibility.
