Rajasthan Royals have named West Indies players Evin Lewis and Oshane Thomas as replacements for the second leg of IPL 2021. The West Indies duo will replace England’s Joss Buttler and Ben Stokes, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in IPL.
Both the players will head to the UAE for the remainder season of IPL 2021 after the conclusion of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League tournament.
Left-handed batsman Lewis, who hails from Trinidad and Tobago, will replace Buttler in the squad. He made his T20I debut for West Indies during the T20 World Cup in 2016.
While Jamaica-born pacer Oshane Thomas will replace Stokes in the UAE leg of the remaining IPL 2021. Thomas is currently playing for Barbados Royals in the CPL. He made his international debut against India in 2018 and since then, he has taken 27 wickets in 20 ODIs, and 19 wickets in 17 T20Is.
Rajasthan Royals will begin their second leg of IPL 2021 by facing Punjab Kings on September 21 in Dubai. And they will play a total of 7 matches in the remaining tournament.
Rajasthan Royals will also miss out on the services of England pacer Jofra Archer, who was ruled out of the tournament after picking a cut on his hand.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara had admitted that Archer’s absence would be a huge blow for the side. However, no such replacement has been announced for him.
And going into the UAE leg, there will be no change in the leadership as Sanju Samson will continue to lead the side.
He gave a solid start to his side this season and is also one of the highest scorers of the side with 277 runs in 7 matches. While Chris Morris is the highest wicket-taker for the side with 14 wickets in 7 games so far.
The remaining season of IPL 2021 will resume from September 19 in the UAE.
