Ramiz Raja is of the opinion that Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan should overcome his rusty phase and play as the power-hitter of the team. He added that Shadab Khan should play like Hardik Pandya, a power hitter who score 50 runs off 30 balls.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ramiz Raja said: “I don’t understand Shadab’s batting. What is his role when he comes out to bat? Is he a saviour or a power hitter? Today, he could have played easily because they had a lot of overs in the bank. But generally, his batting is going through a rusty period. He should have a profile like Hardik Pandya. He is a power hitter who scores 50 runs off 30 balls.”
Ramiz Raja’s comments come following Pakistan’s disappointing loss against England in the ODI at the Sophia Gardens on Thursday. The visitors lost the game comprehensively by nine wickets against a second-string England team comprising five newcomers. England successfully chased the paltry target of 142 runs to win the game in just 21.5 overs.
On Thursday’s game, Shadab Khan came out to bat at number seven when his team was at 79/5. He could manage 30 runs off 43 balls and couldn’t contribute enough to avert the loss of the team. Pakistan crumbled really quick after his dismissal. They had already lost six wickets by the time they scored 90 runs.
Ramiz Raja deemed his performance below-par as the player failed to deliver the expected even when he had ample of overs left, given he retired in the 34th over.
“Shadab’s power-hitting has completely gone missing, which is saddening because he is so young. This should be his peak time. But we don’t see that kind of batting from him and he needs a lot of work. In this batting lineup, Shadab has more value as a power hitter,” Ramiz Raja concluded.
Pakistan and England will next square off in their second ODI of the three-match series on July 10 at the Lord’s.
