Afghanistan’s spinner Rashid Khan is set to miss the first Test match against Zimbabwe slated to begin from March 2. According to ESPN CricInfo, the leg-spinner sustained a minor fracture on his finger leading to his ouster from the first Test.
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is yet to officially declare the news of his exclusion ahead of the first Test which will begin in merely a few hours. The board had earlier said that Rashid’s inclusion will only depend on the report of reassessment of his injury on February 28.
“Rashid is under treatment by the relevant health officials in the UAE and the final call of his inclusion in the first test will be taken after a reassessment of his injury on February 28 (Sunday)”, ACB had said in a statement.
It was during a PSL game between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators on February 22 when Rashid sustained the fracture. He walked off the field in pain and later got treatment and still managed to take a wicket during his spell.
Afghanistan had named Asghar Afghan the skipper of the Test team and also named some news faces such as Zia Ur Rehman, Fazal Haq, Munir Ahmad Kakar for the Zimbabwe series in the UAE. Mujeeb Ur Rehman has been left out from the squad considering the presence of Rashid Khan who is now not available for the first test.
