Amid the Mankad talks, Ravichandran Ashwin has called for even contest between batsmen and bowlers in the upcoming IPL. The 13th edition of the IPL will kickstart from September 19, with the finals on November 10.
Ashwin has come up with a new idea that is going to favour the bowlers by saying that there should be a “Free ball” just like the “Free hit” for the batsmen.
During a game, the batsman gets a Free hit in case the bowler bowls a no-ball. This gives them a loose hand to play the delivery without fear of getting out. Ashwin has asked for giving the “free ball” to the bowlers in case the non-striker crosses the crease before their delivery.
Ashwin supported his idea by posting on Twitter by stating: “Make it a free ball for the bowler. If the batsmen gets out of that ball, the batting team will be docked 5 runs. Free hit adds to the drama for a batter, let’s give a chance to the bowlers too. As of now everyone watches the game hoping that ‘the bowlers will get smacked today”
Last week, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting spoke about the Mankading incident which took last year involving R Ashwin and Jos Buttler. Ponting said that he wouldn’t want the same incident this season involving Ashwin who has joined Delhi Capitals this season. Ponting said that he would have serious talk with the off spinner ahead of the season start regarding that.
