RCB vs PBKS: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 48th match of IPL 2021 on Sunday. Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently sitting at the third position on the points table with 7 wins in 11 matches. Another win against Punjab in the next game would effectively help them qualify into the playoffs in the second successive season.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are coming into this encounter on the back of a seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals. A brilliant bowling effort from the entire team helped them restrict RR to 149 runs in the first innings. Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets for 34 runs in 4 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal and Shahbaz Nadeem picked two wickets each.
Virat Kohli (25 off 20) and Devdutt Padikkal (22 off 17) provided the team a brisk start, adding 48 runs for the opening wicket. Later, Glenn Maxwell and KS Bharat stitched a match-winning unbeaten partnership to guide RCB home in just 17.1 overs. Glenn Maxwell scored 50 off just 30 deliveries, while Bharat managed 44 off 35 balls.
On the other hand, Punjab Kings too are in contention of reaching the playoffs. The Kings registered a morale-boosting five-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders in the last game. That victory helped them claim the fifth spot on the points table.
They have 5 wins in 12 matches and have two games remaining in the tournament. On a good batting surface, Punjab conceded 165 runs against KKR in the first innings. It could have been close to a 200-run total but M Shami and Arshdeep Singh pulled it back brilliantly in the final four overs. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 32 in 4 overs.
Punjab made a strong start in the second innings, thanks to a 70-run partnership for the opening wicket between KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. The latter got out after scoring 40 off just 27 balls but the skipper kept on scoring runs with ease. Punjab kept losing wickets in short intervals thereafter but KL Rahul held the fort at the other end. The skipper, unfortunately, got out in the final over after playing a stellar knock of 67 off 55 balls. Shahrukh Khan, however, ensured Punjab reach home with three balls to spare.
