Bangladesh ODI pace bowler Rubel Hossain and uncapped T20 specialist Shamim Hossain were unable to join the squad of their squads in Zimbabwe due to the delay in their visa issuance. The Bangladesh team is currently squaring off with Zimbabwe in the one-off Test match at Harare.
Shamim Hossain, who has freshly completed the Dhaka Premier League campaign on a good note, is part of the T20I squad. On the other hand, Rubel Hossain is part of the ODI squad.
“Lot of flights have been cancelled in the recent past so we didn’t want to take any risk and decided to send them as quickly as possible,” Bangladesh Cricket Board’s cricket operation chairman Akram Khan confirmed. “Rubel and Shamim could not join their teammates due to visa complications but we are confident that we can send them soon and they will be available for the upcoming ODIs and T20Is against Zimbabwe.”
As per a report by Cricbuzz, the BCB officials also confirmed that the ODI squad members were all tested negative for Covid-19 upon arrival in Zimbabwe.
After completing the ongoing Test, the tourists are scheduled to play a warm-up fixture on July 14 – two days ahead of the ODI series. The ODIs are scheduled on July 16, 18 and 20 in Harare, while the three T20Is will be played on July 23, 25 and 27 at the same venue.
As per the current status of Day 3 of the Test, the visitors have a lead of 200 runs. Batting first, the Bangladesh team registered a total of 468 runs, while Zimbabwe got bundled up in 276 runs in their first innings.
