Former Bangladesh men’s team fielding coach Ryan Cook will take over as interim head coach of the Netherlands team, Cricket Netherlands confirmed on Friday.
The decision had to be made due to the health of regular head coach Ryan Campbell, who had a series of cardiac arrests and had to be hospitalized last month. On the other hand, Campbell is anticipated to make a full recovery and was recently released from his Stoke-on-Trent hospital. According to the Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond, Campbell is likely to return to the club later this summer.
Cook has previously worked with Netherlands veterans Peter Borren and Pieter Seelaar, as well as assistant coaches at Hobart Hurricanes, South Africa A, and South Africa Under-19.
“I am honored to be joining the team and look forward to working with the players and coaches for the next few months,” Cook said in the statement.
“There is an exciting schedule ahead and I aim to help the team from strength to strength.”
Netherlands schedule:
The Netherlands will host the West Indies for three one-day internationals early next month as part of the ICC Super League, which will determine who will play in the 2023 ODI World Cup. After that, England will play three One-Day Internationals at Amstelveen, their first encounter with the Netherlands in over 11 years, followed by two T20Is against New Zealand and two ODIs against Pakistan, all at home.
The Netherlands is presently in the lowest place in the Super League standings, with only two wins in ten games (both against Ireland). They need to step up their game if they want to qualify for the World Cup, In a recently concluded series against the kiwis New Zealand clean swept the Netherlands team.
