Despite being banned from playing cricket for seven long years, Sreesanth is hopeful of making a comeback in the Indian Cricket Team and represent the side in the ICC 2023 World Cup. He didn’t get any buyers in the IPL 2021 Auctions, which left him disappointed. However, the Kerala bowler isn’t willing to bow down just yet.
S. Sreesanth has come up with a notable performance for Kerala in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Kerala and Uttar Pradesh. The 38-year-old fast bowler opened the bowling for his side but proved inefficient in his first spell. He then came back brilliantly and took 5fivewickets to end the innings with a spell of 5 for 65 in 9.5 overs.
He first took the wicket of a well-set Goswami (54) before getting rid of skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The veteran fast-bowler also accounted for the wicket of Akshdeep Nath(68), who was all set to score a big knock. Sreesanth’s brilliant spell in the latter half meant Uttar Pradesh collapsed from 242/4 to 283 all out.
Kerala, in reply, has scored 223 for 5 in 40 overs. The match is currently poised with 61 runs needed in the final 10 overs.
For those of you who don’t know, S. Sreesanth’s first List-A five-wicket haul came in 2006. His recent spell of 5 for 65 is only his second five-wicket haul. In his List-A career so far, he has played 87 matches, picking 113 wickets at an average of 34.9. Besides, he has played 53 One-Day Internationals and 27 Tests for India, picking 75 and 87 wickets.
