SA vs BAN Test: South Africa have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Dean Elgar will continue to lead the side, while Temba Bavuma will be his deputy.
It is pertinent to note that all those players who are set to participate in the upcoming edition of the IPL aren’t included in South Africa’s Test squad. It means that players such as Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi aren’t part of the squad.
In their absence, the onus will be on the likes of Dean Elgar, Temba Bavuma, and Keegan Petersen to do the bulk of the scoring. In the bowling department, the likes of Duanne Olivier, Keshav Maharaj, Lutho Sipamla will be their biggest bets.
On the key players missing out due to IPL commitment, the CSA Convenor of Selectors, Victor Mpitsang said,
“CSA’s current MOU with @SACAplayers states that CSA is not at liberty to refuse players the opportunity to take part in the IPL, as CSA and SACA look to balance the livelihoods and opportunities of players and their national duties,” CSA tweeted.
“The loss of the IPL players is not ideal, but we back the CSA system, its ever-growing pipeline and most of all, the players we have selected,” says CSA Convenor of Selectors, Victor Mpitsang.”
