SA vs Bangladesh: Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Wednesday, February 9, that Bangladesh will play three One-Day Internationals and two Tests in South Africa beginning in March 2022 as part of the ODI Super League and World Test Championships, respectively.
The tour will begin with the One-Day Internationals on March 18, 20, and 23. SuperSport Park in Centurion will host the first and third matches, while the Wanderers in Johannesburg will host the second game, which will be a pink day match to promote awareness for breast cancer treatment.
Both series count for key points in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League and the ICC World Test Championship, therefore the tour is quite important for the hosts.
With 80 points, Bangladesh is presently in second place in the ODI Super League. Before going on the South Africa tour, they have a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan at home. Meanwhile, South Africa is in tenth place with 39 points after three victories in ten games.
The visitors’ first Test will be held in Durban on March 31. It will be their first visit to the arena since their single match in the World Cup in 2003 when they were defeated by Canada. The second Test will begin on April 8 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.
After a 2-1 win over India, South Africa is presently sitting in fourth place in the WTC points table. After a 1-1 tie with New Zealand, Bangladesh is in the seventh position.
At a spectacular performance at the start of the year in Mount Maunganui, they defeated the defending world champions. In any format, Bangladesh has never beaten South Africa at home.
