SA vs NZ: At the end of the fourth day of the second Test, South Africa have a great chance of winning the game and thereby levelling the series. The Proteas managed to score 214 runs in 47 overs on day four of the second Test.
Verreynne, who is playing only his sixth Test, went on to score his maiden century. He stitched a 78-run stand each with Mulder and Rabada for the sixth and eighth wicket. Later, he added 32 more runs with Lutho Sipamla to lift South Africa to 425 runs.
Verreynne ended up playing an unbeaten knock of 136 runs in 187 balls, including 16 fours and 1 six. Mulder made 35 off 91 balls, while Rabada scored 47 runs in 34 balls. Thanks to all those contributions, South Africa managed to give New Zealand a target of 425 runs.
As for New Zealand, all the bowlers, namely Southee, Matt Henry, Jamieson and Wagner picked two wickets each. In pursuit of the target, New Zealand lost four wickets for just 94 runs at the end of day 4. Kagiso Radaba, once again, got rid of both the openers inside the first three overs. Will Young got out on the third ball of the innings without even opening his account. In the 3rd over, Tom Latham got back to the hut after scoring just 1 run.
Later, Henry Nicholls (7 off 32) and Daryl Mitchell (24 off 72) failed to impress and got out before the end of the day’s play. Devon Conway, however, held firm and stayed unbeaten at the crease till the end of the day’s play. He managed to play an unbeaten knock of 60 runs in 127 balls, including 8 fours.
New Zealand is currently trailing by 332 runs, while South Africa need 6 wickets to win the match.
