England’s county cricket club on Tuesday announced signing former player and wicket-keeper Sarah Taylor for the upcoming domestic season.
The 31-year-old will be joining the coaching staff of the club only on a temporary basis along with Ashley Wright.
“Sussex Cricket is delighted to announce the addition of Sarah Taylor and Ashley Wright to its coaching staff for the forthcoming season.” the club said in a statement.
The pair will work together with the entire team management including the first team and plan a proper team-game strategy. Moreover, Sarah will work closely with the wicket-keepers of the club, as her record of most number of dismissals (227) behind the wicket in women’s cricket.
Besides, she also boasts off 7000 runs in international cricket. On her appointment, Sarah expressed delight and stated: “I’m really pleased about working with the club’s wicketkeepers. From Ben Brown and Phil Salt in the professional squad and down through the pathway, we have a really talented group of keepers at Sussex who I am looking forward to working with immensely. I want to share my experience and expertise to help them get the most out of their game. I’m a big believer in keeping things simple and perfecting the basics so that players can enjoy and express themselves with the gloves.”
Ian Salisbury, club’s joint men’s head coach backed the decision to add the pair in the coaching staff and said, “As with everything we do, the decision to add Sarah and Ash to our coaching staff is based on our strategic aim to produce homegrown or ‘Sussex-field’ players who will ensure the club is competing in all formats and providing as many players for England as possible in future”
