After exhibiting notable performances in the first two games of the ongoing three-match T20 series between India and South Africa, Shafali Verma has reached the number one spot in the ICC Women’s T20 rankings. The 17-year old star has surpassed Beth Mooney in the rankings, having scored 23 and 47 in the first and second game, respectively. She is currently sitting in the number one position with 750 points to her name.
South Africa opener Lizelle Lee is another one to gain in the T20I rankings even though the big-hitting opener lost her top spot in the ODI rankings within a week of replacing England’s Tammy Beaumont. Lee has gained three slots to reach 11th position among T20I batters after a match-winning 70 helped South Africa to a winning 2-0 lead.
Also, Laura Wolvaardt has scaled five places to reach 24th place in the rankings. Her unbeaten 53-run knock in the second game helped her side earn a win. Skipper, Sune Luus also jumped five placed to 38th, while Nadine de Klerk saw herself jumping three places to 74th.
Indian spinner, Deepti Sharma moved upwards to 40th place, while Richa Ghosh has moved to 85th place among batsmen. All-rounder, Harleen Deol saw herself making improvements in both the batting and bowling departments. She has now attained 99th place among batters and 146th place among bowlers.
India and South Africa are currently taking on each other in a three-match T20I series. Both sides have won one game apiece with a solitary game left to be played. The final T20 game will be played on Tuesday at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
