Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials declared that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan won’t be available for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour. He is also not a part of the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. The series is excluded from the ODI Super League despite being a bilateral series.
Shakib Al Hasan notified the Bangladesh Cricket Board that he will not be available for the three ODIs against the West Indies, according to prior reports from Cricbuzz.
BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus confirmed this on Thursday before meeting with the selection committee at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. After the current T20I series in Guyana, Bangladesh is slated to play three ODIs on July 10, 13, and 16 there.
Shakib served as the team’s captain for the first time in three years, during their 2-0 Test series loss to the West Indies last week. Mominul Haque resigned from the role just before the tour, and he was appointed captain in his place.
Shakib’s absence from the ODIs is most likely due to the fact that the matches are not a part of the ODI Super League.
In addition, the star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan won’t play for Bangladesh on their trip to Zimbabwe following the West Indies series. BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus confirmed the same, following the meeting with the selection panel at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
“Shakib is not available for the Zimbabwe tour and informed us about it before and so we sat with the selection panel regarding the formation of the team. Most of the other senior players are available and they want to play,” Jalal informed.
It was also reported that Bangladesh is willing to send a second-string team to Zimbabwe, but the final call is yet to be made.
