Australia youngster pacer Darcie Brown has heaped praises for veteran batter Ellyse Perry calling her an “absolute legend of the game”.
Alongside her new-ball partner, Darcie Brown took the Australian team to a stellar success on Saturday in their Women World Cup 2022 match against New Zealand. Perry played a pivotal role in the team’s resounding 141-run victory, after failing to make any considerable contributions in the previous two victories of the team.
She made the initial breakthrough for the team as she bowled out New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine while she also contributed with the stick, playing a vital knock of 68 runs of 86 balls.
“She’s an absolute legend of the game, so it’s pretty surreal to be able to open the bowling with her and just be a part of a team with her,” Sydney Morning Herald quoted Brown as saying.
Darcie Brown, the 19-year-old fast bowler who took off two of New Zealand’s big three in a brilliant seven-over performance that delivered 3 for 22 as the hosts fell into deep difficulties from which they never recovered, losing by 141 runs, their 100th ODI defeat against Australia.
Brown dismissed Amelia for just one run, hitting the edge with a fuller ball outside off that spun away slightly, and Beth Mooney took a superb catch at second slip. In her next over, Brown enticed Bates to hit the trigger with a short, quick one that looped up to McGrath at midwicket.
However, despite that, uncertainty looms over the participation of Brown in Australia’s next match against the West Indies on Tuesday as the team continues to remain plagued with injuries.
“I definitely want to play every single game and get as much experience as I can but in the past, with young fast bowlers there have been a fair few injuries,” Brown said a day after slicing the top off the New Zealand batting order to finish with 3-22.
“When management says that I need a rest, you’ve just got to trust them and know that it’s in your best interests to keep you going for the long run. I guess it’s not just this tournament but the rest of my bowling career they’re looking at.”
