The second-string Indian Team, led by Shikhar Dhawan, arrived in Sri Lanka for the upcoming white-ball series against the Island nation on Monday. Team India is scheduled to play three ODIs and as many T20 internationals against Sri Lanka, beginning from 13th July 2021.
The first ODI will be played on 13th July, followed by 2nd and 3rd on 15 and 18th July respectively. After the conclusion of the ODI series, three T20 internationals will be played on 21st, 23rd and 25th July 2021.
Recently, Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya shared a picture on his Instagram, updating his fans on the team’s arrival in Sri Lanka.
The team will be led by Shikhar Dhawan, while Rahul Dravid is the head coach. Before departing for Colombo, both Shikhar Dhawan and Rahul Dravid addressed the media in a virtual press conference. Rahul Dravid stated that for the team, the primary objective would be to win the series and not to give opportunities to all the players in the squad.
Also, with as many as 20 players in the squad, it’s going to be difficult for all the players to get a game in the series.
“So like you said, rightly there are a lot of people in the squad who are pushing for places or looking to cement their places in the sort of T20 World Cup. But the key goal for everyone in the squad and in the team is to try and win the series, we have had discussions around it.”
“That is the primary objective. We are going out there to win the series, hopefully, people get the opportunity to put in good performances in the course of us trying to win the series, and knock the doors of the selectors,” said Dravid while replying to an ANI query during a pre-departure press conference on Sunday.
India will play the first ODI match against Sri Lanka on 13th July 2021.
